The judge in Britney Spears' custody case has had harsh words for the pop star, but at least Spears is getting positive feedback in the court of musical opinion.
In fact, many reviewers have declared her new album, Blackout, the pop singer’s first album in four years, a major hit.

The AP’s music writer describes the club-y 12-song disc as, “not only a very good album, [but] it’s her best work ever - a triumph, with not a bad song to be found.”
The BBC went on to hail Spears’ song “Piece of Me” (with lyrics like: “I’m Miss American Dream since I was 17” and “Guess I can’t see no harm in working and being a mama”) as a “masterpiece.”

Even reviews that diss Spears’ can’t help but fawn a little. The Chicago Tribune’s critic writes, “Blackout is by far the most musically accomplished of Spears’ five studio albums” before slamming her as being “devoid of personality.”

“Gimme More,” the first single from Spears’ fifth album, is number 13 on this week's Billboard’s Hot 100 chart and Blackout is currently ranked the number one most downloaded album on iTunes.

Nicole Denies Reports of Smoking While Pregnant

Despite a New York Post report on Monday that a pregnant Nicole Richie was spotted smoking in New York twice over the past week, the reality star's rep says she's not even in the country!
Richie's rep tells Extra that accounts of Richie smoking are "irresponsible and untrue." And while columnist Cindy Adams claims Richie lit up outside New York restaurants DaSilvano and Nobu (with fiance and father-to-be Joel Madden, even), Richie and Madden are reportedly abroad and nowhere near New York.

Lindsay Backs Out of Another Party

For the second time this year, Lindsay Lohan has backed out of hosting a party in Las Vegas.

As recently as last week, 21-year-old Lindsay was scheduled to attend a New Year's Eve blowout at Vegas nightclub LAX, but today her rep tells Usmagazine, "Lindsay will no longer be hosting New Year's Eve in Las Vegas."

The announcement should come as no surprise to those close to Lindsay. Last week, a source told SCN that "Lindsay doesn't necessarily want to host but she's contractually obligated," due to the 21st birthday plans at LAX sister-club PURE that she had to scrap in July in order to go to rehab.

Lindsay's rep says the actress, who has been out of rehab at Utah's Cirque Lodge for less than a month, "continues to focus on her work and sobriety."

Still, that doesn't mean a Vegas party isn't in Lohan's future. A source tells us, that the deal between Lindsay and PURE remains in place, and "they will both wait for a day" when she can host an event for the company, perhaps even "another year from now.”

Oprah Breaks Down

Oprah Winfrey broke down in tears to parents of her $40 million girls' school in South Africa last Sunday apologizing for the recent alleged allegations of physical and sexual abuse there.
“Nothing is more serious or devastating to me than an allegation of misconduct by an adult against any girl at the Academy,” Oprah told Usmagazine.com in a statement. “I will do everything within my power to ensure their safety and well-being.”
In an emergency meeting held on October 21 at the school in Henley-on-Klip, south of Johannesburg, Winfrey, 53, said, "I've disappointed you. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry," according to the nation's new site News24.com.
A father of one of the students comforted the talk show host, telling her, “It’s not your fault. We don’t blame you.”
Last week, it was reported Winfrey — who was abused as a child — had flown to the school twice in less than ten days (canceling an October 12 appearance honoring pal Julia Roberts in Beverly Hills) following alleged allegations of physical and sexual abuse.
A matron was accused of fondling at least one girl; one student also claimed the same instructor grabbed her by the throat and threw her against a wall, according to reports. Other students alleged the matron cursed and screamed at them.
The allegations came to light after one student reportedly ran away because the abuse had become so bad.
At Sunday’s meeting, Winfrey handed out her phone number and email and mailing addresses, assuring parents she could be reached at all times, according to the report.
The principal and at least one other matron were put on leave about two weeks ago.
Winfrey has also hired her own investigators, in addition to the South African police and the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses Unit who are on the case.
"It is all in the hands of the investigators," a school spokesperson told the Sunday Times of Africa October 23. "They will have to determine if criminal charges will follow.”

Gary Collins Charged with DUI

Gary Collins was charged with DUI today after last week's driving escapade. Collins crashed his Ford Explorer into a car that cut him off. Then both cars crashed into two parked cars.

The 89-year old driver of the 2nd car is still in the hospital.

Collins could face up to 6 months in jail.

Still No Ruling in the Britney vs. K-Fed Custody Fight

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline faced off in court Friday, but the verdict is still out on whether Britney will get joint custody back.

After a lengthy hearing, during which a visibly upset Spears took three bathroom breaks, Commissioner Scott L. Gordon made no ruling regarding the custody arrangement of their sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.

Los Angeles Superior Court spokesperson Meredith Pierce said of Friday's proceedings: "Custody issues were discussed. The judge took it under submission and a ruling is forthcoming no sooner than Monday."

"The court will issue a written ruling either Monday or Tuesday," said Federline attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan. "The court heard many exparte motions and a continued order to modify custody. I do believe the order that the court will issue on Monday will be modified by the various expartes. I am not going to speculate what that order may be." (An "exparte" hearing is when one party requests a hearing.)

Kaplan made it clear that his client still has custody, saying, "Mr. Federline has custody of the kids this weekend, but the court did allow [Spears] to spend some time with the kids."
Spears, who cursed at an Usmagazine reporter during a break in Friday's custody hearing, continued to be in a foul mood after the court recessed. SCN spotted Spears speeding away from the courthouse in her Mercedes and almost crashing into a bus.

Paris in fender bender

Yesterday, Paris Hilton and her driver got into a little fender bender, when Ms. Hilton wanted to go into Kitson, on the DL. They drove into the back ally of Kitson, backing up into a paps car. But, that didn't stop Paris from shopping. She made sure everything was okay, and went into the store.

No one was hurt.

Britney Spears checked herself into the Van Nuys Jail last night for her misdemeanor charges of hit and run.

Wearing a black mini dress, black leather jacket, and silver chains around her neck, she walked into the jail to do her time.

She spent a whole 45 minutes in the slammer, and L.A. Police told SCN that she was so polite that she was never put into a holding cell. FOX 11 Los Angeles News caught Brit entering and exiting the prison.

Gretchen Wilson was issued an "in-flight citation" when she went from Nashville to L.A., in coach by the way, because she was being extremely rude and "verbally abusive" to the American Airline employees, yelling out, "F*** You" when asked to put her dog back into it's carry-on.

Gretchen had no comment.

Ellen's Dog Nightmare

Ellen DeGeneres and girlfriend Portia de Rossi adopted a dog named Iggy from an adoption agency on Saturday. When they brought the pooch home, Iggy didn't get along with Ellen's other animals so she gave the dog to her hairdresser who has two kids.

Then, last Night the agency came to the hairdressers house and seized the dog because they said Ellen violated the adoption contract. Ellen said she should have notified the agency, but she didn't think it was a big deal, because she found a loving home for him. The agency stuck to their guns and removed the dog with police present.

Ellen says,"I kept saying, If you want to be mad at me, be mad at me, but don't take it out on the family. Don't take it out on the dog."

T.I. Stuck in Jail 'Til Friday

T.I. was suppose to be in court today, but it was cancelled until Friday, which means he will be eating bologna 'til then.

T.I. Arrested Today

T.I. got arrested today in Atlanta because he had his bodyguard try to buy him illegal machine guns and silencers.

T.I., who's real name is Clifford Harris, was busted a while back with possession of illegal weapons.

Latest Celeb to go to Rehab...

Dirty, Sexy Money star Samaire Armstrong has entered a rehab facility in LA today.

Her rep said in a statement: "Samaire Armstrong decided to enter an outpatient facility to deal with some personal issues in a therapeutic atmosphere and is doing very well. She continues to work on her show and will be completing her treatment in a matter of weeks."

A source tells SCN that she will be absent for only one of the shows episodes.

Britney's comeback tour

With all her legal shenanigans in the headlines, it would be easy to forget that Britney Spears is not just a single mom, but also a pop star with a new single -- "Gimme More" -- atop the music charts.

But in the wake of her latest courtroom drama, Usmagazine.com has learned that Spears is amid plans for a possible comeback tour and new video and she is scheduled to start auditioning dancers on Friday at Millenium Dance Studio in North Hollywood, California.
We caught up with Millenium owner, Robert Baker, who filled Us in on the details.

Us: Britney has been a client of yours for some time. What is she like?Robert Baker: Britney is a wonderful person, and has the biggest heart out there. She's doing good and decent things that people in the public never see. This is what we see as Britney as a client. I think this important to know.
Us: What happened with the auditions Britney had set up for today?RB: She had a big audition set up for today, but something came up at the last minute, and she rescheduled for tomorrow.
Us: What are the auditions for?RB: They are for the video of the second track from her Blackout album. I heard but I can't confirm that it might be the slightly slower song she was thinking about doing for the VMAs, and for a tour. She wants male and females for both. It's an all day schedule, 9-5, open call.
Us: How do you know she's planning a tour?RB: Britney's booked a considerable amount of space and time for the next couple of months, and of course we're honored and humbled that she's chosen us again. The tell tale sign for us is her booking space -- it's her typical warm-up behavior for a tour. She's done it this way before all her tours. It's a big sign that she's getting back her focus after all these distractions. The focus is definitely coming back.'
Us: How do you feel she's fairing through all these distractions?RB: I can't speak for what goes on in people's heads, but I can say that she's strong and she's coming back. I think it's time for her to do this. She's strong, dedicated, a hard worker and professional. I know I couldn't do what she's achieved. The fan base is certainly there- her single is number one, the video is number one on YouTube -- she's just 25 and has already done so much, and of course like any 25-year-old, she's had herissues. But she's done it before, and she'll do it again. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised. She's focused and looking to getting backto work.
Us: When did she cancel today's auditions? Were the dancers disappointed?RB: I'd rather not say. What I can say, and would like to stress, is that Britney is a very talented entertainer, and an amazing individual. People buying her record is testament to her ability to come back.

Britney Spears was just granted one overnight visit with her two kids a week, but will be monitored.

After the hearing, Brit's attorney and K-Fed's attorney met, and agreed to let Brit have more visitation hours.

Janice Dickinson gets more plastic surgery

Janice Dickinson, an outspoken fan of plastic surgery, has some new work she will soon take public.

SCN has learned exclusively that Dickinson, 52, the self-proclaimed "world's first supermodel," underwent a tummy tuck and "mini neck lift" Monday in Beverly Hills. The surgeon: Dr. Frank Ryan, the plastic surgeon to the stars who famously augmented the breasts of Hills star Heidi Montag.

A source tells SCN that while "Janice knows people will think she didn't need a tummy tuck," she's been complaining about "a lot of extra skin" on her lower abdomen and wanted tighter abs. The source adds that she opted for the mini neck lift as an after thought because "she might as well since she was going under."

According to the source, Dickinson, star of Oxygen Network's Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency, is now resting at the Serenity after-care center in Santa Monica.
Just prior to having a facelift in 2004, Dickinson explained the appeal of plastic surgery to Entertainment Tonight: "I consider plastic surgery important because I'm in front of the camera, I still model, and, quite frankly, I was noticing my skin looking like a turkey wobbler. I'm just trying to hang on to what I got."

Michelle Rodriguez going to jail

M. Rod was sentenced to jail for 120 days for DUI and hit and run today.

She is said to report to jail sometime before December 24, 2007.

Jennifer Lopez has kept her glossy pink lips sealed during recent public appearances, dancing around questions from interviewers wanting to know if she’s singing for two.
But her bump speaks loud and clear.
After Lopez made an appearance on MTV’s Total Request Live on October 8 to promote her new CD, Brave, cohost Damien Fahey told Us that her condition was obvious.
“I’ve been around a lot of pregnant women. She walked around like a pregnant woman, sat like a pregnant woman and stood like a pregnant woman,” he says. “If I were a betting man, I’d definitely bet she was pregnant.”
Indeed, Us has confirmed from multiple sources that Lopez is about four months pregnant with her first child. Or children – a source tells Us Lopez’s mother, Guadalupe, 61, “is proudly telling people she’s having twins.”
The 38-year-old singer-actress, who has long expressed her desire to have both career and kids, is ecstatic about the news.
“It’s a dream come true,” a Lopez source tells Us. “She and Marc are over the moon.”
Pregnancy news is especially sweet for Lopez, whom insiders believed was unable to carry a child at all. “[Conceiving] was a struggle for her,” says a source.
Seconds another, “This pregnancy is a miracle."
Anthony, 39, who has three children from prior relationships, has been equally eager to expand his brood.
When Anthony was recently asked to imagine his response to his wife being pregnant, he said, “It’s going to be me in handcuffs, because I will run down the street, screaming like a madman.”

SCN has confirmed that the Spice Girls will perform at the 2007 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. Last year's performer was Justin Timberlake.

A source tells SCN that the girls "are rehearsing for it already. It's going be their big comeback appearance."

David Hasselhoff has a relapse earlier today and is now hospitalized. His people say he is doing well now, and will return home tomorrow.

Britney and her sister Jaime-Lynn were making their way into a sushi restaurant in Malibu yesterday, when out of nowhere comes this lady screaming at Britney saying, "Nobody wants you in this neighborhood! ... You're making the neighborhood unsafe!" The paps defended Brit by yelling at the woman, but then Jaime-Lynn stepped in and yelled in the woman's face, "Then move the f**k outta the neighborhood!" The woman then tried to put her hands on Jaime-Lynn, but Brit quickly pulled herself and little sis into the restaurant.

More on the DMX animal cruelty allegations

The authorities investigating animal cruelty allegations have reported more gruesome details on the three dogs found buried in DMX's backyard and the 12 live dogs they seized at his house.

The dogs were "significantly decomposed, the head and rear quarters and legs had a white trash bag around them; the body was wrapped in a dirt-stained beige fitted sheet and inside a clear plastic bag; all placed inside a white body bag."

Two of the three buried dogs had severe bit marks all over their bodies, consistent with dog fighting, and the third dog was burned so badly an autopsy was impossible.

BREAKING NEWS: Lindsay leaving rehab!

After undergoing nearly two months of treatment, Lindsay Lohan is ready to check out of Utah's Cirque Lodge Treatment Center. And a source tells SCN that the 21-year-old star plans to spend the weekend with her father in Utah before returning to Los Angeles on Sunday night. She begins filming the romantic drama Dare to Love Me next week.

Michael Lohan, who has had substance abuse problems of his own, spoke to E! Online today about his daughter's troubles and the road ahead. “I am so blessed to have her back," he told E!, adding that "[she's in] a stronger place than ever."

Prior to her rehab stint at Cirque Lodge, Lohan attended both L.A.'s Wonderland center in January 2007 and Promises in May 2007. But her dad thinks things will be different this time around, telling E! that she has a new approach to her sobriety, and is committed to removing herself from bad influences.

After being arrested in July for her second DUI of the year, she released a statement acknowledging her addiction problems, and seeking help. "It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs....I very much want to be healthy and gain control of my life and career and have asked for medical help in doing so. I am taking these steps to improve my life."

In August, a judge sentenced Lohan to 24 hours in jail after she pleaded no contest to one count of misdemeanor DUI , two counts of reckless driving, two counts of being under the influence of cocaine, and driving while having a blood alcohol level above .08 legal limit.

Lindsay headed to college?

YES, a close friend of Lilo tells SCN that Linds is seriously cosidering college after rehab.

"She wants to go somewhere in NY, like NYU or Colombia. She's really smart."

Heidi and Spencer fight for hunger

Instead of fighting Lauren Conrad, reality TV lovebirds Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag are now battling hunger.

The Hills duo have partnered with Taco Bell to aid in the fight against hunger with the World Food Programme during World Hunger Relief Week starting October 15.

"Taco Bell approached us and asked us to help out," Pratt tells Usmagazine.com. "We were honored to be included in the World Food Programme's fight against hunger and are excited to do whatever we can."

Britney's record label loves her

Though the first few days of Brit's week have been undeniably rough, with a court taking away custody of the singer's two sons, things appear to be turning around. First, SCN caught a sneak peek at the popstar's new video -- and loved it! Now, Spears' record label is coming to her side, calling her "one of the great recording artists of her time," in a statement released to Us Magazine Read on!
